“I have loved Costa Mesa since I set foot here in 1989,” says Mike Decker, lead pastor of Palm Harvest Church.
“In 1996, after a trip to Atlanta, GA the Lord put on my heart the desire to walk every street and pray for those who live and work here. God is definitely up to something. I’m confident that He is stirring up a movement that is going to touch the world. I want to be a part of it!”
Mike began his Costa Mesa ministry in 1989 as the Associate Pastor at Harbor Trinity Church. During the summer of 1999, the Lord gave Robin and Mike the same “memo” on the very same day...“Wring-Out Your Sponge!”
"God was telling us that our lives had become saturated. To increase our effectiveness, we needed to step away from the security of a healthy church, strong staff, and move more intentionally into the arena of faith. I’ve dreamed a long time about planting a new church. What better place to do it then in the city God called me to pray for?” So with that, Palm Harvest Church was born.
As Mike and Robin began praying with some close friends as to what their next action should be, almost immediately the Lord opened the door for them to hold a Sunday worship service on the campus of Costa Mesa High School. During the summer, Palm Harvest offers an Outdoor Worship service!
Over the past ten years, God has helped shape the Palm Harvest
family into a team of First Responders. Within days of national catastrophes (hurricanes, tornados and tsunami's) PHC has been extremely strategic about sending teams of servants to help people rebuild their lives. Here in Costa Mesa, PHC remains involved with the Police Department, Chamber of Commerce and local schools.
God is calling us to build bridges to people in our community through service. As we partner together, it'll be those bridges that people will walk across to meet Jesus for themselves.
Will you join us in this effort? “I hope you will.”
Pastor Mike is an ordained minister, has two Master's degrees, and is currently working on his doctoral degree from Biola Universty. He and his wife Robin have been married for over 24 years!
Mike enjoys surfing, playing basketball and his guitar. He loves taking risks and is always "game" for a new adventure. In addition to being the Lead Chaplain for the Costa Mesa Police Department, Mike also enjoys announcing Varsity football and basketball games for Costa Mesa High on Friday nights.
